Every gardener will appreciate this unique sandwich. You can use a cookie cutter to cut out the flowers or just cut circle flowers. Another option is to make small circles and cut petals from veggies. This is a perfect sandwich to make for spring and summer. Then make a bread pudding from the bread scraps for dessert, using our recipe.
For the Flower Pot:
- 4 slices white bread
- 2 slices dark bread
- 2 slices whole wheat bread
- Veggies for Flower Centers
- Sandwich filling
Remove crusts from bread. Cut out a flower pot shape, as shown, from 2 slices of the white bread. Set dark bread pieces together and carefully cut out the top rim of the flower pot, while leaving enough room to cut out a flower. Use a cutter or cut free-hand. Also cut out a white flower and a whole wheat flower. Fill all sandwich sections, including flowers, with sandwich filling. Arrange in place on the plate.
Cut celery stems to fit between flowers and pot. Make leaves from an outside slice of zucchini that has been lightly peeled, so that the leaves are a light green color. Set in place. Make centers of flowers with bits of veggies. We used radish, broccoli, zucchini and a circle of carrot. Now your flower creation is complete.
