Easter Pancakes for Kids

How about some Bunny pancakes … or chick pancakes … or flower pancakes?  We love making fun and colorful pancakes as a morning surprise.  This is perfect for Easter brunch or Easter breakfast.  Give it a try!

Need:

  • Pancake mix
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable oil
  • Milk
  • Food coloring
  • Plastic squeeze bottles

What To Do:
Make pancake mix according to directions on package.  Prepare batter using directions for 2 cups pancake mix.  Mix very well with a wire whisk or electric mixer to remove all the lumps. Batter should not be too thick or too thin. Pour about 1/2 cup to 1 cup batter, at a time,  into a large measuring cup with spout.  Depending on what colors you plan to use,  mix ½ cup batter and a few drops of food coloring for each color used.   Pour each color as mixed into a squeeze bottle.  Leave some batter plain, with no food coloring added, if you need a white color.

Heat griddle to slightly warm.  After much experimentation, we have discovered that if you draw a basic outline, also adding features such as eyes etc,  this will “set” your pancake shape.  Then fill in other areas with desired colors once the outline starts to raise slightly.  Move heat up to around 250, so pancakes don’t darken too much.  Once batter starts to bubble and pancake loos “set”, flip pancakes.

We did have to experiment slightly to get the right thickness of batter but once you’ve got it, you’ve got it … sort of like riding a bicycle.  Easter greetings !!
